Welcome to the H F Gallery
Encouraged by his parents to study Drawing and Painting at the Duncan of Jordanstone College in H F is an unknown treasure in the World of Art - for the moment. For over 30 years he has been inspired by the legend of True Thomas the Rhymer, the Queen of Elfland's lover. Thomas was whisked away to Fairyland for 7 years. The Queen handed him an enchanted apple which "bestowed on a him, a tongue that could not lie". When he returned to Ercildoune, the Borders village of Earlston, he possessed magical powers of prophecy .He predicted the death of a Scottish king, the Battle of Bannockburn and the 1707 Act of Union. H F work is multifarious and intricate. The minute detail in his oil paintings have hidden stories of a nether world all of their own. Concealed within the flora and fauna, you will find a painting within a painting. These images bear the need for close examination, look for small groupings of fairies taking flight, or exchanging a tender kiss. So ethereal and delicate are these figures, it makes you wish you could be a fairy, too! Thomson doesn't fit the mould of the Art Community, probably because they cannot categorise him. But someone of this very individual talent defies classification. Perhaps a few years from now, "other" artists will be identified as "Thomson-esque" in their style. H F lives in South Queensferry, Edinburgh.
